  5.     The programs in LOADSTAR Briefs
  6. are:

  8. o [TITLE SCREEN VIEWER:] Use this to
  9.   check out the title screen again.
  10.   Now you can even print the screen!
  11.  
  12. o [TEXT PRINTER:] Use this to print
  13.   the text for any selected programs
  14.   all at once, rather than
  15.   individually.
  16.  
  17. o [CONTENTS/DIRECTORY PRINTER:] Use
  18.   this (if your printer supports
  19.   condensed printing) to print out a
  20.   small, concise Table of Contents,
  21.   suitable for insertion in the disk
  22.   sleeve. It also prints the
  23.   directory of any disk.

  29.     Since there's a lot of loading
  30. going on when the title screen is
  31. showing, you can't easily capture it
  32. with Super SnapShot, Explode or other
  33. cartridges for grabbing pics. Run
  34. Title Screen Viewer and the picture
  35. will be shown without any loading
  36. taking place.

  42.     You can print out the Read It
  43. file (the documentation) for any
  44. program by pressing P when you're
  45. reading the text -- OR you can use
  46. TEXT PRINTER to print out selected
  47. text files all at once.

  49.     From the TEXT PRINTER menu you
  50. can:
  51.  
  52.  (1) Select File(s) from current dir
  53.  (2) Print selected files
  54.  (3) Quit to LS Briefs
  55.  
  56.     TEXT PRINTER has three printing
  57. formats: one 65-character column, two
  58. paper-saving 38-character columns, or
  59. three condensed 38-character columns,
  60. which save more paper, but will only
  61. work on Epson compatible printers.

  63.     Pick your preferred mode of
  64. emphasis before selecting the style
  65. printout. Our text, which is written
  66. for 38-character screens, doesn't
  67. always format exactly in the
  68. 65-character mode.

  74.     This program will print a nice,
  75. tiny, two-column Table of Contents of
  76. whichever LOADSTAR (Side One) is in
  77. the drive. It will also print out a
  78. tiny, four-column directory of any
  79. disk. The default driver is for a
  80. Star NX-1000 series printer. Try it,
  81. and if it doesn't work properly, you
  82. can create a driver for your
  83. particular printer, as long as your
  84. printer supports the subscript mode,
  85. elite pitch, condensed mode, and x/72
  86. line spacing.

  88.     To make a driver, choose the
  89. first option, "Create a printer
  90. driver", get your printer manual and
  91. enter the codes for the prompted
  92. modes. For the Star NX-1000 they are:
  93.  
  94.   Subscript Mode     : 27 83 49
  95.   Elite Pitch        : 27 77
  96.   Condensed Mode     : 27 15
  97.   Line Spacing 7/72" : 27 49
  98.   Reset Printer      : 27 64
  99.  
  100.  You may have to enter different
  101. numbers for your printer.
  102.  
  103.     Keep the LS disk in the drive
  104. while doing this so that your new
  105. driver can be saved. Once you have a
  106. working driver (in a file called
  107. "driver") you can substitute it for
  108. "driver" on any LOADSTAR disk that
  109. has CONTENTS/DIRECTORY PRINTER on it.

  115.     You obviously do not need the
  116. ability to print out the Title
  117. Screen. But the TS Viewer function
  118. [is] quite useful when using the Save
  119. Screen Shot (on VICE).

  121.     The Directory and Contents Print
  122. functions produce a nice, one sheet
  123. output when using VICEOut Reader. To
  124. prepare to "print" --
  125.  
  126.  * Press <Alt> and use the Windows
  127. arrow to Minimize VICE.
  128.  
  129.  * Boot VICEOut Reader, click Files >
  130. Open, and navigate to the folder
  131. where the LOADSTAR D81 resides. If a
  132. "viceprnt.out" file exists, click it
  133. once and press the <Delete> key to
  134. get rid of it -- otherwise VICE will
  135. just append the new printing onto the
  136. old file (VICE 1.6 or earlier. VICE
  137. 1.7 now deletes the old file before
  138. writing a new one.)

  140.  * Press <Alt-Tab> to return to VICE,
  141. and run the Contents or Directory
  142. Printer. Answer <N> to the "CBM 1525
  143. etc" prompt. Continue the Print
  144. process.
  145.  
  146.  * When prompted to turn the printer
  147. on, press <Alt> and click on Settings
  148. > Device Settings, and check that
  149. Device 4, Printer, is enabled. Click
  150. OK.
  151.  
  152.  * When finished, Press <Alt-Tab> to
  153. return to VICEOut Reader. The
  154. "viceprnt.out" file should be
  155. visible. Double-click it to Open it
  156. to the Reader. You can Print out
  157. directly from VICEOut Reader, or Copy
  158. and Paste to your favorite word
  159. processor.
